Alex is an educational animatronic head designed by David Buckley aimed specifically at the beginner in electronics, robotics and animatronics. The control board is ready assembled consequently the kit requires no special knowledge of electronics and the Alex kit is easy to assemble using a small screwdriver, a pair of pliers and wood-glue. It has been built successfully by students studying make up and prosthetics who wanted to learn about animatronics and has been operated by children as young as five.

Alex can remember and play back moves put in by the user and has an in built voice recorder and speaker system to bring the head to life. Four servos (motors) control the mouth, eyes and neck and the blue LEDs in the eyes may be turned on and off as desired throughout the performance.
