After assembly of the head and body and the figure is set to the desired pose the silicone skin of the neck must be trimmed so that during all operations the skin remains clear of the body. (Do not cut off too much, it cannot be glued back on!) Gems Display Figures can accept no resposibility for this operation. Failure to trim the silicone skin will cause premature ageing of the skin and accelerated wear of the mechanism. The costume must allow free movement of the neck and mouth; failure to allow free movement will cause premature ageing of the skin and accelerated wear of the mechanism. Dr Mirakel Head =============== Neck ---- 4.5v to 6v (operation outside this range may damage the electronics). The Power-Supply used must be current limited or fused so the current can not exceed 0.75 amp. Pulse lengths outside the range 1ms to 2ms may cause the mechanism to hit end stops. If the mechanism hits its end stops, then damage may result to the electronics and mechanics. Eyes ---- Power supply is shared with the neck servos, see above. Pulse lengths outside the range 1ms to 2ms may cause the mechanism to hit end stops. If the mechanism hits its end stops, then damage may result to the electronics and mechanics. Pulse lengths outside the range 1ms to 2ms will allow the back of the eyes to become visable. Mouth ----- Motor power - Nominal 12v, motor rating 12v, absolute maximum 16v. The Power-Supply used must be current limited or fused so the current can not exceed 0.5 amp. Operation beyond 16v will damage the electronics. Increasing the voltage beyond 12v will increase the response of the mouth. Increasing the voltage beyond 12v will shorten motor life. Pulse lengths outside the range 1ms to 2ms may cause the mouth to repeatedly open and close. Pulse lengths outside the range 1ms to 2ms may cause damage to the skin. Control signal -------------- standard radio-control-servo pulse +ve going, 5v, 1ms to 2ms, every 20ms (operation outside this range may damage the electronics and mechanics) Wiring ------ 10 pin idc connector pin1 denoted by triangle on connector pins 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 pin 10 - Mouth motor supply 12v - 16v (see note above) pin 9 - 0v pin 8 - not connected pin 7 - not connected pin 6 - Mouth servo control-pulse pin 5 - Eyes servo control-pulse pin 4 - Left-neck-servo control-pulse pin 3 - Right-neck-servo control-pulse pin 2 - Neck servos, Eyes servo, and Mouth electronics supply, 4.5v - 6v pin 1 - 0v Neck operation -------------- The two servos which control the position of the neck are joined by a mixer bar so that: if both control-pulses are 2ms then the head will turn one way, if both control-pulses are 1ms then the head will turn the other way, if one control-pulse is 1ms and the other control-pulses is 2ms then the head will look down, changing the control-pulses to 2ms and 1ms will make the head look up. Control-pulse values between 1 and 2 ms will set the head to intermediate positions. Mouth operation --------------- A control-pulse of 2ms will close the mouth. A control-pulse of 1ms will open the mouth to its maximum extent. Values between 1 and 2ms will set the mouth position proportionally. Dr Mirakel Arm ============== Power for Motor and driver --------------------------- Nominal 12v - (8v to 16v)(below 8v may damage the electronics, 8v gives smoothest operation, above 12v smooth movement is harder to achieve) The Power-Supply used must be current limited or fused so the current can not exceed 1 amp. Power for Servo Amplifier electronics ------------------------------------- 4.5v to 6v (operation outside this range may damage the electronics). The Power-Supply used must be current limited or fused so the current can not exceed 0.5 amp. Control signal -------------- standard radio-control-servo pulse +ve going, 5v, 1ms to 2ms, every 20ms (operation outside this range may damage the electronics and mechanics). 2ms the arm is close to the body. 1ms the arm is away from the body. The hand may be left free on its screw thread if desired. Be careful not to force the stick so that it places stress on the fingers of the hand, they will break off.
